Course Description:
HealthyCity.org is an information and mapping website that offers unprecedented access to the largest database of community resources in Los Angeles County. Featuring the latest in Geographic Information System (GIS) technologies, Healthy City can be used to locate social service programs and map various socio-economic and demographic data about your community, such as U.S. Census data and Vital Statistics-birth and mortality data. In this hands-on computer-based seminar, you will learn to identify specific social service programs for client referrals, create rich demographic maps of LA County Neighborhoods to illustrate community needs and resources, and access diverse demographic, health and socio-economic data sets to create reports of specific neighborhood indicators.
